Nicholas Munich

Nicholas Munich (* 19th October 1794 in Wadern ; † 29. January 1881 in Cologne ) was Cologne Cathedral Provost .

The son of a cloth maker attended primary school in his hometown from 1801/02 to 1807 and then the grammar school in Trier until 1812. From 1812 to 1817, he then studied theology at the Episcopal seminary in Trier, where he also on 28 November 1817 ordination received.

Until 1819 chaplain in St. Wendel, he then became a teacher and director of the Latin school in Ahrweiler . From 1823 to 1825 he studied theology and law again in Bonn. From here he became secret secretary to Archbishop Ferdinand August von Spiegel of Cologne in 1825 , which he remained until 1835. The scientifically interested Munich received his doctorate on October 22, 1827 in Würzburg as Dr. theol. and on December 4, 1828 in Freiburg as Dr. jur. Also canon in Cologne since 1832 , his career slumped with the death of Archbishop Spiegel. The Prussian government, with which he worked together, dropped him when he was not elected vicar of the capitular and thus probably had no following in the chapter. Only with Archbishop Johannes von Geissel did Munich come, who always had the smell of a public servant and who, under the mirror, had had lasting influence on church-political affairs in Prussia. On September 26, 1848, he was appointed President of the Archbishop's Ordinariate and on February 1, 1850 to the Archbishop's Ordinariate. Berlin also sponsored him again and nominated him to the Cologne cathedral provost. The “ Kölner Gymnasial- und Stiftungsfonds ” received 18,000 gold marks from him in his will for the training of young family members.
