Ninja Sex Party (or NSP for short ) is a comedic synth-pop duo founded in 2009 in New York by Leigh Daniel Avidan, aka Danny Sexbang, and Brian Wecht, aka Ninja Brian .
history
Leigh Daniel Avidan, previously a singer in bands like The Northern Hues and Skyhill, and the pianist Brian Wecht met through friends in New York in 2009. Inspired by performers such as The Lonely Island or Flight of the Conchords , both founded the formation Ninja Sex Party, a musical duo that is about a Jewish superhero and a ninja . Musically, they are mainly based on the synth pop of the 1980s , but are sometimes also more diverse, through the use of rock elements or rap chanting. Thematically, topics such as women and sex, or simply nonsense, are sung about . Festival appearances as well as a large number of deliberately trashy music videos made the duo quickly popular. By May 2015, these music videos had around 52 million views on YouTube alone .
In 2010 they received the award for “Best Comedy Video” at the “Industry Power Play's International Music Video Competition”, as well as the “Trophy of Awesomeness” from Vimeo . They also won in the categories "Best Comedy Video Short" and "Best Comedy Song" at the "INNY Comedy Awards".
Together with the animator Arin Hanson, they also started the synth-pop and nerdcore side project Starbomb, which mainly deals with video games. The self-titled debut album was released in 2013 and the successor Player Select in 2014 .
