No Game No Life Zero ( Japanese ノ ー ゲ ー ム ・ ノ ー ラ イ フ ゼ ロ , Nōgēmu Nōraifu Zero ) is a Japanese anime cinema film based on volume 6 of the light novel No Game No Life by Yū Kamiya . The film was released in Japanese theaters on July 15, 2017. As with the anime television series, Atsuko Ishizuka directed. Studio Madhouse took over the production.

Production and publication

Atsuko Ishizuka directed the production of Studio Madhouse . The script based on the template by Yū Kamiya was written by Jukki Hanada . The character design comes from Satoshi Tasaki and the artistic direction was with Eiji Iwase . The sound was directed by Jin Aketagawa, and the sound was produced by Magic Capsule. The music was composed by Yoshiaki Fujisawa.

The film is distributed by Kadokawa Animation, a daughter of Kadokawa Shoten . It was released in theaters on July 15, 2017. In the first week the film was number 7 in the Japanese box office, in the second week it was number 10 Sentai Filmworks licensed No Game No Live Zero for a release in the USA.

In Germany and Austria, the film was shown in a dubbed version on June 7 and 10, 2018, in some places optionally also in the original with German subtitles , in selected cinemas. For these two days of presentation, around 21,000 tickets were sold in 172 participating cinemas, which resulted in box-office revenues of around 255,000 euros. The cinema event thus reached number five in the German cinema charts. Due to this great success, further screenings were added to the program in many cinemas. In the end, more than 200 cinemas showed the film.

Home video

The film was released on August 23, 2018 as an "Imanity Edition" limited to 4000 copies on DVD and Bluray in a folding box that also contains a chess figure, a booklet and two mini displays . On September 20, 2018, the film was released as a standard edition on DVD and Bluray.

content

The film takes place about 6000 years before the series, at the time of the great war in which whole stars were destroyed. In order not to perish, the entire human race submitted to Riku. During an expedition they find Shuvi, a female machine. Riku decides to teach her what a real human heart is and how it works.

Characters

Riku

One of the two protagonists. He is the leader of the people and looks like Sora from the main series. Since people have made him their leader in their need, he seems to have particularly outstanding qualities, similar to Sora. He saves Shuvi’s life on an expedition and decides to teach her how the human heart works.

Shuvi

The second protagonist is a female machine. It looks like Shiro from the main series. She is found by Riku in a destroyed elf city and accompanies him, among other things, to learn how emotions work.

Teto

A god who is already known from the main series. Later, as the only survivor of the gods, he creates the 10 commandments on which the series is based.
