The encyclical Non abbiamo bisogno ( We have no need ) was published on June 29, 1931 by Pope Pius XI. published in Italian. It deals with Catholic Action , Fascism in Italy and National Socialism in Germany.

The peaceful coexistence between the Holy See and the fascist government of Italy, initially expected after the Lateran Treaty was signed on February 11, 1929, turned out to be very fragile. When the fascists exerted a stronger influence on the education of young people and the Catholic Action in Italy tried to counteract these currents, there were renewed disagreements between Pope Pius XI. and Benito Mussolini . At the climax of this dispute, the encyclical Non abbiamo bisogno was published.

The introduction describes the occasion of this encyclical and is addressed with gratitude to the Catholic Action in Italy. This is followed by a defense and a statement intended to underline that Catholic Action is not a political measure. In the summary, thoughts about one's own actions follow, which then come to an end with the warning about the arrival of fascism.

Neither side had any interest in widening this dispute, because the Catholic population did not give their consent, and this dispute could be harmful to the fascists. After a formal agreement between the disputing parties, this was settled.
