Nongoma ( English Nongoma Local Municipality ) is a municipality in the South African district of Zululand in the province of KwaZulu-Natal . The administrative seat of the municipality is Nongoma . JB Mavundla is the mayor. The NFP provides the majority in the municipal council.
The name of the community comes from the name of the kraal Zwides , the ruler of the Ndwandwe at the time of Shaka . The Zulu king Goodwill Zwelethini and the royal family live in Nongoma. In 2011 the community had 194,908 inhabitants.
geography
Nongoma is the second largest municipality (by population and area) in the Zululand district. It is located in the east of the district and in the north of KwaZulu-Natal. The community consists of over 98 percent rural area. The only urban settlement is Nongoma . Other settlements in the municipality are Ezilonyeni , Mvulazi , Mahashini , Sidinsi and Bhekumthetho .

In 2011 the community had 194,908 inhabitants. 99.5% of them were black.
The first language was 95.7% isiZulu , 1% isiNdebele and 0.9% English.
economy
Agriculture is the most important industry in the region. However, the need for development is so great that corresponding projects at the Provincial Ministry ( KZN Department of Agriculture and Environmental Affairs ) and the State Ministry ( National Department of Land Affairs and Agriculture ) have priority. However, not even 20 percent of the community has high agricultural potential.
Large parts of the population are unemployed and the wage level is low. In addition, the level of education is very low. Only 33 percent of the population have completed primary school and only 5.3 percent have completed the twelfth grade .
