Epameinondas Savvas Papantoniou ( Greek Επαμεινώνδας Σάββας Παπαντωνίου , better known as Nontas Papantoniou * April 28, 1990 in Cholargos ) is a Greek basketball player who is 1.90 m tall and can be used in the positions of point guard or shooting guard .

Career

At club level

Papantoniou made his debut in what was then A1 Ethniki , the top division for club basketball in Greece, at the age of 17 at GS Marousi . For this he ran in the following season 2008/09 in the ULEB Eurocup , before switching to AEK Athens in summer 2009 . He left this again after one season and played for the 2010/11 season with city rivals Ilisiakos Athens . At the Ilisiakos, the then 20-year-old was part of the permanent rotation of the squad and was used in 25 of a possible 26 games. Nevertheless, he switched to the GS Peristeri after just one season . There he played 23 games, but was awarded significantly more playing time than in his previous stations. Papantoniou honored this with 137 points. He topped this in the 2012/13 season when he was by far the most successful thrower of the Peristeri. In 26 games used, the guard came to 298 points and 111 rebounds. This yield alone, but not enough to save Peristeri from relegation. In order to continue playing first class, Papantoniou left the GS Peristeri and signed for two seasons with VAP Kolossos . There he ran on the side of Christoforos Stefanidis and came to 221 points in 26 games. Despite the current contract, Papantoniou moved to the re-promoted AEK Athens for the 2014/15 season . At the game association, however, he found himself in the role of a backup player and was awarded less playing time than he had enjoyed on Rhodes and at the Peristeri. Nevertheless, in the summer of 2015 he extended his expiring contract for another two years and played again internationally with the AEK from the 2015/16 season .

For the 2016/17 season Papantoniou then moved to the Spanish second division and joined the Araberri Basket Club . At the beginning of December 2016 he had his contract terminated and on December 11, 2016 he moved to the Catalan basketball club Actel Força Lleida, where he had signed a contract until the end of the current second division season. In mid-January 2017, Promitheas brought Patras Papantoniou back into the Basket League. In the summer of 2017 he signed a one-year contract with GS Larisas Faros . The Guard moved to PAOK Saloniki for the 2018/19 season .

National team

Papantoniou went through all of Greece's youth national teams. So he played alongside Vangelis Mantzaris , Kostas Sloukas , Nikos Pappas and others in the U-16 European Championship 2006 in Spain . Belonged to the squad of the U-18 European champions from 2008. Reached the final of the U-19 World Cup in New Zealand in 2009 alongside Kostas Papanikolaou , Dimitris Katsivelis and other colleagues . Was defeated there by the undefeated US-Americans with 80:88 points. The Greek selection also reached second place at the U-20 European Championship for which Papantoniou was nominated again.

Papantoniou belongs to the national team in the competition of the officially held 3x3 competitions. He played for Greece at the 2012 World Cup and the 2015 European Games .
