Norbert Franz (Slavist)

Norbert Franz (born October 7, 1951 in Mainz ) is a German Slavist and university professor .

Life

Franz attended the Stefan-George-Gymnasium in Bingen am Rhein . After graduating from high school in June 1970, he studied Slavic, Romance , German and history at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz . In 1973 and 1974 he was in Rome for study visits , where he was lecturer for the German language at the Institute for Philosophy at La Sapienza University . In June 1979, his doctorate he in Mainz for Dr. phil.

He qualified as a research assistant at the Institute for Slavic Studies at the University of Mainz in 1986 and received the Venia legendi for Slavic Philology . In 1987 he went to the Cusanuswerk in Bonn for seven years . In 1994/95 he was professor for East Slavic literatures at the Humboldt University in Berlin .

In the winter semester 1995/96 he moved to the University of Potsdam . From 2000 to 2004 he was Dean of the Philosophical Faculty. Since 2001 he has been the permanent delegate of the faculty to the Philosophical Faculty Day . Since 2005 he has been director of the Institute for Slavic Studies and since 2006 vice dean of the Philosophical Faculty. He retired on April 1, 2017.
