Norbert Friedrich Haug (born November 24, 1952 in Engelsbrand-Grunbach , Baden-Württemberg ) is a German journalist who was head of motorsport at Mercedes-Benz from 1990 to the end of 2012 .

Haug began his career in 1973 as a trainee at the Pforzheimer Zeitung , and in 1975 switched to the Motor-Presse-Verlag in Stuttgart as a journalist . A year later he became head of the sports department for auto motor und sport magazine . There he was appointed deputy editor- in- chief in 1988 , after having been editor-in-chief of the magazine sport auto from 1985 to 1987 .

Motorsport boss at Mercedes-Benz

In 1990 he moved to Daimler-Benz AG , where he became head of motorsport. At the beginning Haug was in charge of the group C , later also in the DTM and the ITC . In particular, Klaus Ludwig's DTM drivers 'titles in 1992 and 1994 as well as Bernd Schneider's DTM and ITC drivers' titles in 1995 were the highlights of Norbert Haug's early years as head of Mercedes sports. At the end of 2012, Haug and Mercedes-Benz terminated the contract by mutual agreement.

Return to Formula 1 with Sauber

Under Haug's leadership, Mercedes-Benz returned to the Formula 1 World Championship after almost 40 years . Haug drove races himself in the Porsche Carrera Cup ; He knows the scene as a driver, manager and journalist. He is married and has a daughter.

After motorsport

In October 2013 it was announced that Norbert Haug will be head of the globalization program of the Paravan Technology Group , a specialist provider of handicapped-accessible vehicle conversions from Pfronstetten . In March 2014, ARD announced that it had hired Haug as an expert for the broadcasts of the DTM.
