Norbert Orth

Norbert Orth (born August 18, 1939 in Dortmund ) is a German opera singer ( tenor ).

Education and opera debut

After initially pursuing a career as an industrial clerk, Norbert Orth studied with Dietger Jacob in Hamburg , Cologne and Dortmund and made his debut in 1966 as “Ferrando” in Mozart's Così fan tutte in Enschede .

Further career

After holding positions at the Kiel Theater , at the Düsseldorf Rhine Opera and in Nuremberg , he came to the Bavarian State Opera in Munich in 1979 . Orth made a guest appearance at the Grand Opéra Paris (1976). In 1979 he appeared for the first time at the Metropolitan Opera in New York as "Pedrillo" in Mozart's Singspiel Die Entführung aus dem Serail .

Norbert Orth sang at the opera houses in Berlin, Stuttgart, Hanover as well as in Dresden, Bordeaux and Lyon and made his debut in 1977 as “Don Curzio” in Mozart's Figaro's wedding at the Salzburg Festival , where he appeared in 1980/1981 as “Pedrillo”. At the Bayreuth Festival , Orth sang “Augustin Moser” in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg in 1973 and 1974, and in 1984 the role of “Loge” in Rheingold .

Since he also celebrated successes in the concert hall as an oratorio and lieder singer , he was a. a. invited to Tokyo in 1993 to perform as a soloist in Beethoven's 9th Symphony .
