North equatorial threshold

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The up to 1,420 m high north equatorial threshold (also known as the Asand threshold , after the Azande ethnic group ) is located as a continental highland in the center of the African continent . It is one of the five great African thresholds .

location

The threshold extends from the west of Cameroon to the east via the Central African Republic and the Democratic Republic of the Congo to South Sudan .

geography

The North Equatorial Sill is the western continuation of the Lower Guinea Sill and the eastern continuation of the Upper Guinea Sill . Between these two adjacent thresholds, however, there is still the Adamaua highlands . In the northwest the high plateau-like landscape merges into the plains of the Chad Basin , in the northeast the high Marra massif joins and in the east the plain of the Nile Valley with the swamps of the Sudd . The very high Central African Sill joins in the east and the north equatorial sill merges into the Congo Basin in the south .

National nature

The north of the north equatorial threshold is dominated by moist savannah, the south by the extensive tropical rainforest . Numerous small and large streams and rivers flow from the plateau-like heights, mostly to the north and south: These have often cut into the highlands and their foothills. This is illustrated by the example of the Ubangi and Shari rivers .
