The Nordfriesland is a combined car and passenger ferry operated by the Wyker Dampfschiffs-Reederei Föhr-Amrum .

history

The ferry was built under construction number 1521 as a modified replica of the Rungholt (built in 1992) at the Husum shipyard in Husum as a replacement for the North Friesland . The keel was laid on January 14, 1994, the launch on December 26, 1994. In 1995, Wyker city councilor Margot Melzer was godmother. The test drive took place on March 21st. Since March 28, 1995 it has connected the islands of Föhr and Amrum with the mainland port of Dagebüll .

particularities

Visually, the ship is almost identical to its predecessor Rungholt above the rub rail (Wallschiene) . Only the smoke gas posts are larger. The hull, however, is a completely new design, in which the two propellers have been moved from the inside to the outside to the edge of the ship and turn outwards, not inwards. The ship's bow is pointed towards the front and visually distinguishes the ship from all predecessors of the same type.

Every year a concert takes place on the North Friesland as part of the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival .

Technical specifications

The ferry is powered by two MaK - diesel driven type 6M20 with a total of 2,040 kW. The motors act via reduction gears on two controllable pitch propellers in Kort nozzles . The ship is equipped with two transverse thrusters . Four diesel generators are available for generating electricity on board. An emergency generator was also installed.
