Norman Braun (sociologist)

Norman Braun (born September 14, 1959 in Neustadt an der Waldnaab ; † July 9, 2013 in Munich ) was a German sociologist . Most recently, he was professor of sociology at the Ludwig Maximilians University of Munich (LMU), where he held a concordat chair.

Life

From 1982 to 1988 Braun studied at the economics and social science faculty of the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg with the academic degree Diplom-Sozialwirt . From 1988 to 1990 he completed a graduate degree in the Department of Sociology at the University of Chicago in the USA . In 1992 Braun received his Ph.D. from the Department of Sociology and the Department of Economics at the University of Chicago. PhD . In 1999 he was at the Law and Economics Faculty of the University of Bern habilitation .

Since the 2002/2003 winter semester, Braun was dean of studies at the LMU Faculty of Social Sciences. His teaching and research activities include the methodology of the social sciences , economic sociology , educational sociology and organizational sociology . Together with Ulrich Beck and Armin Nassehi , he edited the sociological journal Soziale Welt .

Braun's research included the rational choice approach, the network approach , the deviance and the general empirical social research . He died on the night of July 8th to 9th, 2013 at the age of 53.
