Norman Cafik

Norman Augustine Cafik PC (* 29. December 1928 in Pickering , Ontario , † the thirtieth September 2016 in Saanichton , British Columbia ) was a Canadian publisher and politician of the Liberal Party .

Life

After attending school, he completed his studies and worked as a publisher after earning a Philosophiae Doctor (Ph.D.) .

After he ran unsuccessfully in the general election on June 18, 1962 and on April 8, 1963 , he was elected as a candidate of the Liberal Party for the first time as a member of the lower house in the general election of June 25, 1968 and represented there until his defeat in the Election on May 22, 1979 for the constituency of Ontario .

Between December 1972 and May 1974 he was Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for National Health and Welfare and then between September 1974 and September 1975 to the Minister for Consumer and Business Affairs. Cafik was between October 1976 and October 1977 Chairman of the Standing House of Commons Committee on Finance, Trade and Economic Affairs and adjacent to September 1977 several months deputy chairman of the faction of the Liberal Party in the House (Liberal Party Deputy House Leader).

From September 1977 to June 1979 he was Minister of State for Multiculturalism in the 20th Federal Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau . After leaving government and parliament, he worked again as a publisher.
