Norske tog AS is a Norwegian state company . It was established to offer rail vehicle rental to passenger transport operators on the Norwegian rail network. The company is owned by the Ministry of Transport and Communication ( Samferdselsdepartementet ). In autumn 2016, the company took over most of the vehicles from NSB .

In addition to leasing existing vehicles, Norske tog provides the requirement specifications for the procurement of new vehicles and provides detailed information on older vehicles if the manufacturer no longer exists.

Material selskapet AS

The company was founded by NSB on June 16, 2016 under the temporary name Materiellselskapet AS as part of the preparations for the restructuring of the rail sector in connection with the rail reform of the Solberg government . The company started operations on October 15, 2016 when it took over most of the vehicles from parent company NSB.

The vehicles used on the Flåmsbana were not transferred because the traffic there will be excluded from the competition until 2027. Also excluded were the vehicles needed for the emergency train department NSB Berging og Beredskap Jernbane , which were transferred to Bane NOR . NSB rents the trains at a fixed monthly price.

Materiellselskapet AS applied for the letter sequence “NOR” on February 21, 2017 as a property label (VKM) and received approval from the European Railway Agency (ERA) on February 27, 2017 . The marking has been in effect since March 1, 2017. Since then, the vehicles have been marked with "N-NOR" in connection with the European vehicle number (EVN).

Togmateriell AS

On September 1, 2016, the Ministry of Transport and Communication founded the company Togmateriell AS , which took ownership of the Materiellselskapet AS on April 1, 2017 . At the same time the official name was changed to Norske tog AS .

The internet domain norsketog.no previously belonged to PH Norge AS, but was bought out in this context.
