The North American NAC-60 was a draft of the North American Aviation, Inc. for a supersonic - airliner . The development took place in the 1960s in the course of a design competition by the US government. For the winning design, prototype funding was provided through state funds. Competitive designs represented the Boeing 2707 and the Lockheed L-2000 , Convair model 58-9 and Douglas 2229. While the designs by Lockheed and Boeing were further evaluated after the first phase of the competition, the NAC-60 was eliminated early because the The air resistance of this design was deemed too high. Although Boeing was declared the winner of the competition by US President Johnson and the Federal Aviation Administration on New Year's Day 1967 and President Richard Nixon approved Boeing's funding for the construction of two prototypes in 1969, the entire project for civil supersonic flight was suspended by Congress in 1971 . This happened even before construction of the approved prototypes began.

The NAC-60 was very similar to the XB-70 Valkyrie , a test aircraft for testing supersonic bombers. This was never built in series either. The canards in the front of both types of aircraft are striking .
