The Ofenwisch nature reserve was designated by ordinance on May 19, 1989 by the Tübingen regional council. It is located on a Danube island in the area of ​​the city of Riedlingen.

location

The nature reserve is located south of Riedlingen between the Danube and the flood relief channel and is therefore an island. The area belongs to the natural area of ​​the Danube-Ablach-Platten .

Protection purpose

According to the ordinance, the protection purpose is “the preservation and promotion of the cultural landscape in the Riedlinger Donauaue with its remaining oxbow lakes and the wet vegetation as breeding, feeding and resting biotopes for the increasingly threatened animal world that is dependent on this meadow landscape. This is especially true for the habitat of the white stork. "

Landscape character

The area is used for green fodder production and as pasture for young cattle and is therefore characterized by large areas of grassland. In the south of the area there are larger forest areas and some old water channels.

Flora and fauna

Numerous plant species can be found on the wet meadows and tall herbaceous meadows, including the water hemlock .

The area was placed under nature protection as a feeding habitat for the white stork . But other bird species such as kingfisher , willow tit and lapwing can also find suitable breeding and feeding habitats here.

Contiguous protected areas

The area is part of the FFH area Danube between Riedlingen and Sigmaringen . In the south, the nature reserve connects oxbow lakes and silting river loops of the Danube .
