The Schand area is a nature reserve in the area of ​​the city of Laupheim in the district of Biberach , which was declared by the Tübingen regional council on October 26, 1981 by ordinance .

location

The Schand nature reserve is located approx. 4.5 km west of the city center of Laupheim in the Untersulmetingen district in the Brühlwiesen district. The area is part of the natural environment hills of the lower tear .

Protection purpose

According to the Protected Areas Ordinance, the main protection purpose is "the preservation of a wetland area with additional drier areas in an intensely agricultural landscape as a prerequisite for life for numerous endangered and protected plant and animal species including their communities."

Landscape character

The protected area is a fen in a basin without drainage, which is partially covered by former peat cuttings. The areas in the edge area are used as litter meadows. There are also some bushes, an artificially created shallow water pond and a small piece of forest on a former rubble dump in the area. The area is drained by the Schandgraben, which forms the northern boundary of the area.

Flora and fauna

Numerous protected plant species can be found in the area, including the great Handelwurz , the great two-leaf , the broad-leaved orchid , the high cowslip , the real cowslip , the flour primrose and the globe flower . The whinchat breeds in the area.
