A chamber of notaries is a body or association in which the notaries are organized and / or which represent their interests. It is a professional chamber. In the Federal Republic of Germany, the chambers of notaries are organized as corporations under public law to which the notaries located in the area of ​​the chamber of notaries belong by law. There are a total of 21 chambers of notaries in Germany, each of which is responsible for a specific area, usually one country . Around 7150 notaries are organized in the chambers of notaries across Germany. In turn, all regional chambers of notaries are members of the Federal Chamber of Notaries , which is also a corporation under public law.

As a corporation under public law, each Chamber of Notaries has powers under public law, for example in the area of ​​the appointment of notaries or with regard to disciplinary measures.
