Nova International is a German pop band from Augsburg, founded in 1998 .

Band history

Beginnings

It all began with the meeting of singer and guitarist Michael Kamm with his future colleagues Michael Dannhauer (guitar), Markus Galli (bass) and Kris Steininger (drums), who quickly tried to compose their own songs after initial jam sessions . The first contact with the professional music scene was made in the same year when they won the Newcomer Contest Band of the Year in Augsburg and thus earned the attention of Mario Thaler , who had produced bands such as The Notwist , among others . The collaboration was unsuccessful, however, but the four of them managed to get their first release: The EP Star appeared with a circulation of only 500 CDs, but sold in a very short time.

The second record with the name 2 followed and was also successful, so that after the first invitations to festivals (including Rock am Ring / Rock im Park ) the group also toured as the opening act with Liquido before they were finally allowed to start across Germany alone. With its ever-increasing popularity, Nova International had still not released a full album, and so did the number of interested record companies who wanted to publish them on a much larger scale.

First album, NI Records and final breakthrough

At the end of 2002, however, the EP Kill Your Stereo was first released by the major label BMG , on which not only pop but also acoustic guitars and supporting computer accompaniment can be heard. Phil Vinall ( Placebo ) now wanted to work with the band who quit at BMG and released the first long player Nova International six months after the EP under Vinall's production . Although it was largely a compilation of the EPs, it still showed something new and was subsequently bought and praised by fans as the first album of the band that only later achieved greater fame.

In 2003, MTV2 POP chose a shortened version of Star as the intro for the German version of the anime Inuyasha .

With the old and the new material, we immediately went on the long Germany tour, which received a good response and aroused the call for more supplies among the fans. In the band, the self-confidence and the work frenzy increased: They immediately began working on the second album, again with Vinall's support. But in an effort to make themselves completely independent of creative control, they let him work as a mixer, not as a producer, and founded their own label: NI Records.

After tinkering until mid-2005, the album One And One Is One was finally released in October of the same year. The video releases of the album brought a further boost in popularity: Falling In , Bored (also seen on MTV ) and The Summer We Had were all directed by the artists shortly after the album.

Current

Nova International have been on “baby break” since 2007. Further information is not known. In 2010 the band recorded the song Me Myself and My Piano together with Lauren Talbot (former DSDS participant) for a commercial for the Swiss retailer Coop , which was made available free of charge on the Internet.

Most recently it was announced that the band will be holding a concert for former manager Thomas Lechner in Augsburg on December 26, 2013. The available tickets were sold out within a short time. A new edition of the band is not planned, however, it is a one-time appearance.
