Novillero is a town in the department of Cochabamba in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

Novillero is the third largest town in the canton of Aiquile in the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Aiquile in the province of Narciso Campero . The place is located at an altitude of 2125  m on the right, western bank of the Río Novillero in a valley of the Sierra de Catatiri .

Novillero lies between the mountain ranges of the Bolivian Cordillera Oriental and the Cordillera Central . The climate is characterized by year-round spring-like temperatures and low rainfall.

The average annual temperature of the region is around 20 ° C (see Mizque climate diagram) and an annual rainfall of 550 mm. The summer from October to March has monthly average temperatures of 22 ° C, the coldest months are June and July with a good 17 ° C. From April to October there is a dry season with precipitation below 20 mm, the summer from December to February has rainfall of 110 to 135 mm.

Transport network

Novillero is located at a distance of 236 kilometers by road southeast of Cochabamba , the capital of the department.

From Cochabamba, the Ruta 7 highway leads in a southeastern direction over 129 kilometers to Epizana and further into the Bolivian lowlands to Santa Cruz . In Epizana, the Ruta 5 branches off in a southerly direction via Aiquile to Sucre and continues to the Chilean border. Sixteen kilometers south of Aiquile, an unpaved road leads from Ruta 5 in a westerly direction, crosses the Río Novillero and after a total of two kilometers reaches Novillero .
