Numb (Alternative title: Numb - light next to it) is an American film drama from the year 2007 with Matthew Perry and Lynn Collins in the lead roles. According to an interview on the US purchase DVD, the screenwriter and director Harris Goldberg was inspired to write the screenplay for Numb through his own experiences with the mental illnesses depersonalization and clinical depression .
action
Humble and successful screenwriter Hudson Milbank suffers from constant anxiety, especially when dramatic changes are emerging in his life. He is not aware that these anxiety states are already a clearly defined clinical picture. Instead, he tries to ignore this as much as he can. One evening he is sitting with friends and acquaintances and smoking a joint , which suddenly turns his life upside down, he becomes aware of his illness, but reduces it solely to his cannabis use through a wrong conclusion.
Dr. Townsend diagnoses a depersonalization disorder and, in addition to regular depth psychological discussion sessions , prescribes various medications, which, however, do not have a particularly strong effect on him. He distrusts the psychiatrist and switches to another professional named Dr. Richmond, who also sees only one medication as a solution.
One day, Hudson meets the attractive Sara. The two fall in love and begin a relationship. He would like to do everything to be happy with her. No therapy is too expensive or too strenuous for him. By chance he ends up with a behavior therapist named Dr. Blaine, who, to his chagrin, falls in love with him.
production
The film was shot mainly in Vancouver , but partly in other locations in British Columbia .
criticism
"Entertaining comedy with two convincing main actors, who of course hardly explores their basic constellation."
