history

The two places Unter- and Oberellenbach can usually not be separated from each other in the oldest historical documents. Documents from 1031 and 1137 point to the places Elahbah and Elenpac , but it cannot be said with certainty that these can be identified with today's places. In the Bavarian land register of 1240 an “ampt” ( office ) is mentioned in Ellenbach. The Bavarian dukes had possessions in Ellenbach in the 13th century.

In 1447 there was already a Hofmark in Oberellenbach. During the Thirty Years War the Swedes invaded the place in 1634. In the description of the Hofmark in 1689, Christoff Ludwig Stöckl is referred to as the owner of the Hofmark. Stöckl's heirs were still in Oberellenbach in 1726. The charity foundation from 1730 is mentioned in a document. The castle was rebuilt in 1756 and had a brewery and courtyard buildings. On June 5, 1796, the Oberellenbach estate was valued at 56,000 guilders.

At the beginning of the 19th century, the Oberellenbach Class II Patrimonial Court emerged from the Hofmark . The community of Oberellenbach, which also included a school, had 277 inhabitants in 1867 and included the towns of Oberellenbach, Pisat, Stiersdorf, Unterellenbach, Wagensonn, Weilnberg and Winkl. It was part of the district office and district court Mallersdorf.

As part of the regional reform in Bavaria , the municipality of Oberellenbach, which belonged to the Mallersdorf district , was incorporated into the municipality of Pfaffenberg on April 1, 1971, which was merged with the Mallersdorf-Pfaffenberg market on July 1, 1972.
