location

Pfaffenberg is a little over a kilometer southwest of Mallersdorf and is connected to the Kleine Laber .

history

The establishment of the place goes back to the year 1100. In a letter of protection from Pope Eugene III. of December 30, 1145, Pfaffenberg is already mentioned among the Domkapitel churches. The Counts of Kirchberg built a monastery here , and the name Pfaffenberg is derived from this. After a brief period of prosperity, the pen was soon dissolved again. The reason for this is probably that the Count of Kirchberg died out in 1226.

Pfaffenberg received his coat of arms on October 22, 1585. In the years 1626 and 1634, large fires raged in Pfaffenberg. Many documents were lost in the process, so that little is known about the early history of the market. One of the oldest buildings is the Zollhof, the creation of which coincides with the establishment of the market. Initially it served as a customs yard building, but then became a monastery or noble residence until it was privately owned in the 17th century. It has remained unchanged since its renovation around 1720.

The regional court, which had existed since 1429, moved its seat from Pfaffenberg to Mallersdorf on August 9, 1805. On June 24, 1840, the Pfaffenberg court was renamed Mallersdorf court. This resulted in a certain rivalry between the larger, more commercial, but spatially cramped market in Pfaffenberg and the smaller Mallersdorf, which after 1862 was richly equipped with regional authorities. In 1895, Pfaffenberg, with 806 inhabitants, clearly exceeded the center of the district Mallersdorf with its 718 inhabitants. In a census carried out on June 12, 1907, Pfaffenberg had 895 inhabitants. As recently as 1970, Pfaffenberg, with 55.8 percent of the workforce in the secondary sector, was particularly associated with trade. In the course of the municipal reform in 1972, the municipalities of Mallersdorf, Pfaffenberg, Holztraubach , Ascholtshausen , Oberellenbach and Oberlindhart , which belonged to the dissolved district of Mallersdorf, were merged into the Mallersdorf-Pfaffenberg market. Today Pfaffenberg has over 2,300 inhabitants.

The Stöttner private brewery has existed in Pfaffenberg since 1832 (owned by the family since 1892).
