West is a district of the Mallersdorf-Pfaffenberg market in the Straubing-Bogen district in Lower Bavaria .

The parish village west is about five hundred meters south of Pfaffenberg south of the Kleine Laber .

history

The history of the West is closely linked to that of the neighboring town of Niederlindhart. The former parish Niederlindhart no longer existed in the 16th century and merged with the west parish. This was incorporated into Mallersdorf Abbey around 1620 , and has been independent again since 1803.

In the course of the regional reform in Bavaria , Westen was incorporated into the Mallersdorf-Pfaffenberg market together with the Niederlindhart community on January 1, 1978.

Attractions

  • Parish Church of the Sacrifice of Mary . The building with early Romanesque origins dates from the late 15th century and was redesigned in Baroque style in the 18th century . The stately tower was built around 1483; it was raised to 60 meters in 1741 and received its characteristic onion hood . On the rococo high altar from 1787 there are two figures by Christian Jorhan the Elder . The pulpit from Mathias Obermayr's workshop around 1755 contains reliefs on the story of St. John.
  • Sculpture group of Boniface, Willibald and Suidger. In the cemetery, a sculpture made of Eichstätt limestone commemorates the meeting of the three people Bonifatius, Willibald and Suidger in 740. It was from here that the founding of the monastery and the later diocese of Eichstätt was organized.
