Obergammenried is a district of Bad Wörishofen in the Swabian district of Unterallgäu, about three kilometers south of the city of Bad Wörishofen .

The lonely hamlet on the border with the Ostallgäu district consists of a few properties and has around 30 residents.

history

The site, which emerged as a clearing settlement, is first mentioned in a document in 1323, the Catherine's Monastery Augsburg acquired a farm in Gammenried from Conrad Masser from Dirlewang . The monastery already owned larger lands around Wörishofen from a donation. Even before 1379 the landlords Heinrich and Hermann von Irpisdorf appeared as wealthy in Gammenried, but the largest landlord was the lordship of Wörishofen belonging to the Katharinenkloster.

At the time of secularization , the hamlet consisted of two farms; 1864 is documented as having 18 inhabitants.

Architectural monuments

The chapel of St. Kümmernis is a catholic chapel, probably built in 1645 as a votive chapel. The rare and curious patronage refers to the fictional Saint Wilgefortis ( sorrow ). In 1769 the "upper farmer" Martin Singer built a new building in his garden. Today's chapel is probably just a renovation and was consecrated on May 26, 1886 by the Swabian water doctor and pastor Sebastian Kneipp . The renovation was financed by the Sieber and Osterrieder farming families.

Business

A larger agricultural hall in the village has been rented out as an event location for several years. Another agricultural property is used as an equestrian facility with a riding hall and outdoor track. The property, which dominates the hamlet in its size, was a training stable for trotting horses for several years ; To the southwest of the village, a 1,200 meter long training track for trotting horses with an outside gallop track was created in 2009, which still exists today.
