The Oberhof farmers' market was an entertainment program on GDR television with folk music , brass music and occasionally hits and popular classical music . It was produced from 1974 to 1990 shortly after the fall of the Wall . For artists like Stefanie Hertel and Gaby Albrecht , it was the springboard to a career.

Conception

The name is derived from a rustic culinary-musical series of events that the Interhotel Panorama (today Treff Hotel Panorama Oberhof) has been organizing in its fireplace hall since around 1972. Gerhard Honig and Ursula Upmeier designed the 60-minute entertainment program with two components: easily catchy music and small talk .

When it started, a special feature of the program was that production was limited to the permanent location in Oberhof. Until 1977 the Oberhof farmers' market was located in what was then the Interhotel "Panorama" Oberhof in the chimney hall. From 1978 the farmer's market moved several times: among others to the Hall of Friendship (Wandelhalle) in Oberhof or to the Simson-Saal in Suhl- Heinrichs. From the beginning to the middle of the 1980s, the program was moved to the nearby Volkshaus Zella-Mehlis . In the mid-80s, the Oberhof farmers' market was also recorded in Cottbus and Karl-Marx-Stadt. Production took place in the House of Culture in Gera until 1990 . Since at this point the series had nothing to do with Oberhof for a long time, it was decided in 1990 to rename the program to Thuringian farmers' market .

Gerhard Honig, the in-house composer of the farmers' market, composed an opening credits for the TV show (1:24 min), his wife Ursula Upmeier wrote a lyrics for it. Editors of the TV show were Käthe Muskewitz, Hansjoachim Seiferth (from 1975). Directed by Volker Büttner, Karl-Heinz Boxberger and Joachim Jäckel.

Tables with benches on which the guests sat and about two meter high backdrops, which represented Thuringian half-timbered houses, created the impression of a farmers' market. In addition to the music, verbal contributions took up almost as much space. Customs and traditional craft trades were presented and framed with suitable music titles. Regular guests were Fred Schmidt , Rosemarie Ambé , the solo entertainer Hans Schrumpf (accordion, organ), Ingrid Raack , Eberhard Hertel , Gitte & Klaus , Ellen Sander and the Pößnecker musicians as well as Waltraut Schulz and Herbert Roth with his ensemble.

Occasionally the Oberhof farmers' market was compared with the similarly designed Musikantenstadl , which, however, was only produced by ORF from 1981.

Broadcast date

The first program was broadcast on Saturday, March 9, 1974 at 2:20 p.m. From 1974 to 1977 it was broadcast in black and white . The program was originally broadcast on Saturdays, later on Sundays between 4 and 5 p.m. The first color broadcast in the series was the major event with the title Thuringian farmers 'market from the town hall of friendship in Suhl on September 24, 1977. This was followed by other Thuringian farmers' markets in 1978 (Thuringian farmers wedding) and 1980 (salt fair) from the town hall of Bad Salzungen, which were then broadcast on Saturdays in the main program at 8 p.m.

After 99 episodes, the Oberhof farmers' market was removed from the broadcast schedule in September 1990 and was not continued by the MDR even after the German television broadcasting station was closed . Instead, the programs Achim's Hitparade and Wernesgrüner Musikantenschenke were included in the program, the editor of which was Hansjoachim Seiferth.

On Tuesday, September 25, 1990, at 8 p.m., a special program entitled Goodbye in green mountains with a review of 16 years of Oberhof farmers 'market and Thuringian farmers' market was shown in the 2nd program of the DFF as a farewell to the series .

presentation

The program was first hosted by Heike Lebe, then Gisela and Manfred Matzke moderated together until 1983. From 1984 Manfred Matzke († 2012) moderated alone.

Up until 1982 the Oberhofer Bauernkapelle regularly played live music under the direction of the solo clarinetist Rolf Schirmer. Most of the musicians belonged to the Leipzig Radio Band. During the speaking, the audience was entertained by Hans Schrumpf on the accordion.

The Honig / Upmeier couple composed or wrote a large number of music titles especially for this series, which were recorded by the soloists together with the Gerhard Honig orchestra.
