Hans Uthemann

Alfred Eduard David Hans Uthemann (born November 6, 1866 in Ronsdorf (now part of Wuppertal ), † February 25, 1931 in Kiel ) was a German vice admiral.

Life

Hans was the son of Wilhelm Adolf Uthemann and his wife Maria geb. from Schenk. Since August 6, 1896 Uthemann was with Anna Auguste Henriette born. Schenck-Grothe married. His brother Walther Uthemann was also a naval officer as a naval chief medical officer with the rank of admiral.

After attending grammar school in Kassel , Uthemann joined the Imperial Navy as a cadet on April 16, 1886 . After completing his basic training, he graduated from the Kiel Naval School . He then served on the cruiser frigate SMS Moltke and worked for the I. Torpedo Department from May to the end of September 1889. For a short time from October to the beginning of December 1891 he acted as an officer on watch on the ironclad SMS Kronprinz and then emigrated to German East Africa . Here Uthemann served as an officer on watch on the gunboat SMS Möwe , which was in station duty off East Africa . He returned to Germany in mid-December 1893. He became the commander of the II. Torpedo Division in Wilhelmshaven and, as commander, transferred the ships of the line SMS Brandenburg and SMS Kurfürst Friedrich Wilhelm to Turkey . In 1913, as captain at sea, he became the commander of the liner SMS Schleswig-Holstein . During the First World War Uthemann was on December 17, 1916 rear admiral and inspector of torpedoes .
