Oberholz (Middle Franconia)
The Oberholz is a contiguous forest area south of Langenaltheim , a municipality in the central Franconian district of Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen . Until the municipal reform in Bavaria, the forest was a municipality-free area .
It is located in the extreme south of the Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen district in the southernmost point of Franconia and near the westernmost point of Upper Bavaria . The border to the Swabian district of Donau-Ries and the Upper Bavarian district of Eichstätt runs partially through the forest area. In the south of the forest, in the Röglinger Valley , a stele marks the triangle between Upper Bavaria, Swabia and Middle Franconia. In the south, the Gailach flows past in winter due to its larger amount of water . In the summer months the water seeps away at Warching . The forest area is situated in the Altmühltal nature park in a conservation area . The forest terrain is mountainous; the forest area is in the Franconian Alb at the transition from the Weißenburger Alb to the Monheimer and Eichstätter Alb . The Oberholz is traversed by some corridor paths.
