Monheimer Alb

The Monheimer Alb is a landscape in the Altmühltal Nature Park in the south of the Franconian Alb . It is an extensive, undulating landscape on the southern Franconian Jura , bounded in the south by the Danube , in the west by the Wörnitz and the Nördlinger Ries , in the north by the Altmühltal and in the east by the Wellheimer Trockenental . Politically, it is essentially the Swabian district of Donau-Ries , the Monheimer Alb near Auernheim also has a small share in the Central Franconian district of Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen . The Monheimer Alb merges into the Weißenburger Alb in the north and the Eichstätter Alb in the west .

The Monheimer Alb has a number of landscape protection areas with rare animal and plant species:

the extensive forest area of the Uhlberg , which forms the transition between the Franconian low mountain range Hahnenkamm and the Swabian Alb area between the Treuchtlinger district Auernheim in the north, Döckingen in the west, Möhren in the east and Wolferstadt in the south ,

the reservoir and garden landscape near Kaisheim

and the Danube slopes between Donauwörth - Zirgesheim and Leitheim Palace .

From Leitheim Palace, as well as from the neighboring Schlossberg near Marxheim , you have a good view of the Danube plain and the Lech estuary .

The Monheimer Alb is another tourist attraction

the old town of Monheim ,
Tagmersheim with its castle and an agricultural machinery museum,
the Graisbach castle ruins of the county of Lechsgemünd-Graisbach on the Schlossberg near Marxheim,
the rococo - Leitheim Palace , the summer residence of the Kaisheim abbots, and
the basilica of the Cistercian monastery in Kaisheim .

There is a tourist association Monheimer Alb, to which eleven member communities belong.

In 2007, a 15-kilometer-long marked karst educational path with display boards was opened from Monheim via Warching through the Röglinger Valley to Mühlheim and the Gailach spring .
