location

The parish village is located between Uhlberg and Döckinger Berg in the south of the Hahnenkamm and north of the Monheimer Alb , around three kilometers from Polsingen. The Schlittenharter Graben flows through the village .

history

The first documentary mention was in 1154. A male grave of the Alemanni in the north of Döckingen and manors of the Romans prove that the place was inhabited much earlier. Up until the secularization in 1537, Döckingen belonged to the Heidenheim monastery , after which it belonged to the Margraves of Brandenburg-Ansbach .

At the end of the Second World War , Döckingen was the only village in the area that was defended by the Wehrmacht against the advancing American troops. On April 23, 1945 the US Army came from the direction of Schlittenhart , and the place was occupied the following night. 13 German soldiers, a nine-year-old girl and some American soldiers were killed in the fighting.

On May 1, 1978, the former municipality of Döckingen with its district Kohnhof was incorporated into the neighboring municipality of Polsingen.

Infrastructure

The neo-Gothic St. Urban church from 1874 was probably modeled on a church in Gunzenhausen that was demolished in 1960 . The church tower has three floors and is crowned by a pointed helmet . The baptismal font and the crucifix are presumably by Giuseppe Volpini and date from 1720.

The village is home to the Polsingen primary school and a kindergarten, as well as an office of the Raiffeisenbank Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen , a beverage market, a bakery and an inn .

Döckingen is also the home of Heide eV Döckingen , which annually, in addition to the traditional maypole erection and other cultural events, organizes the three-day music open-air "Die Heide Raucht".

The district roads WUG 30 and WUG 33 run through Döckingen .
