History of the school and its buildings

The Böhlen School since it was first mentioned

Allegedly there was a school in Böhlen as early as 1573. This has not yet been proven in historical sources . According to sources, a school building burned down in 1637. The teacher who was teaching there at the time left Böhlen because there was no money for a new building. For these reasons there was temporarily no school in Böhlen. 1645 is the first time a schoolmaster is mentioned in the sources . There was probably a school building at Schulstrasse 20, today Kirchgasse. The buildings were used until 1879 and stood in what was then Schulstrasse 20 until 1936. In 1879, another schoolhouse was built on this street and in 1899 a northern wing was added. In the extension there were teachers' apartments on the upper floor, which were halved in 1909 and converted into classrooms in 1920. The Böhlen school was initially divided into two classes until 1900. The number of pupils grew steadily, so that in 1910 there were four classes, later six classes and from 1921 eight classes in the Böhlen school. In 1922 a so-called association training for Böhlen with Stöhna , Trachenau , Gaulis and with Zeschwitz was founded. These consisted of two boys 'and three girls' classes. In 1925, 201 children were already being taught in eighth grade. From the twenties, the church school teacher and cantor Oskar Fritzsche was the headmaster of the Böhlen school. It is thanks to him that a Böhlener Ortschronik was written in 1936. As the number of pupils continued to rise, a new school building became necessary. The number of pupils exceeded the capacity of the school building, as it is known that the glass veranda of the railway inn was used as an alternative teaching facility. It was possible to build a new school because the school district granted a loan of 100,000 marks, the Aktiengesellschaft Sächsische Werke (ASW) donated 6000 m² of land and at the same time gave a cash grant of 143,000 marks. In addition, ASW took over the costs for the architects.

The new school building

After lengthy negotiations and multiple changes to the building plans, the administrative authorities approved the construction of the new school on March 24, 1926. After the drafts of Dipl. Ing. Friedrich Rötschke , the work began immediately. The construction management was in the hands of Rötschke, the construction manager was the builder Burghardt. The builder Nietzschmann was responsible for the earthwork, masonry and concrete work, and the carpenters Mocker and Schmidt were responsible for the carpentry work. The excavation work and the completion of the foundation walls only took three weeks, so that the foundation stone could be laid on April 17, 1926. The rest of the construction work went off without complications, as construction management and construction work worked well together and the weather played along. The topping-out ceremony was celebrated on June 12, 1926. It was worked tirelessly. Soon all the building craftsmen were represented in the building; Roofers, plumbers, joiners, locksmiths, painters, tile and parquet layers shook hands. If possible, the work in question was awarded to citizens of Böhlen. notes the dedication for the new school from 1926. Since the costs were not exceeded up to this stage of construction, it was decided at the meeting of the building committee on July 23, 1926 to build the gym. The school received a special ornament from the tower with the clock. It was Böhlen's first local clock; the normal clock, as a symbol of Böhlen, was only built later. School operations began on November 8, 1926.

Development of the school 1926–1990

On November 8, 1926, 220 students were taught by five teachers in the new school building. The old school building on Schulstrasse (today Kirchgasse) was converted into apartments. Due to the increasing number of pupils, the first extension was necessary in 1930, which resulted in another 4 classrooms. Due to the constant expansion of the Böhlener Werke (ASW) and the associated increase in the population in and around Böhlen, the number of pupils also increased, which made a second expansion of the school necessary as early as 1938. This extension included six classrooms.

In order to be able to organize the handicraft lessons properly, a call was launched in Böhlen in 1957, in which helpers were sought for the construction of the so-called technical center. Numerous volunteers made it possible to hand over the new building in December 1958. The technical center was demolished in June 2016 so that the new building could be a sports hall.

In the period from 1956 to 1959, the school was, alongside Pegau , Borna and Deutzen , a middle school in which ten-class education was offered for the first time.

Development of the school from 1990 to today

In the course of the peaceful revolution in 1989 and German reunification on October 3, 1990, the Böhlen School was also subject to far-reaching changes. This was first shown in the renaming of the school to Oberschule Böhlen. The classrooms have been constantly rebuilt and expanded since 1990, so that specialist cabinets for the subjects chemistry , physics , biology and computer science have been renewed. Extensive renovation work has been carried out on and in the school building since 2012, which was largely completed in summer 2016.
