Obertal is a place and a cadastral municipality of the municipality Tragöß-Sankt Katharein in the district of Bruck-Mürzzuschlag in Styria .
The scattered settlement includes several individual layers and the Styromag magnesite plant .
Settlement development
At the turn of the year 1979/1980 there were a total of 31 building areas with 15,149 m² and 21 gardens on 13,344 m² in the cadastral community Obertal , in 1989/1990 there were 31 building areas. In 1999/2000 the number of building areas had grown to 92 and in 2009/2010 there were 38 buildings on 85 building areas.
Land use
The cadastral community is shaped by forestry. 94 hectares were used for agriculture at the turn of the year 1979/1980 and 949 hectares were forest areas. In 1999/2000 agriculture was carried out on 54 hectares and 968 hectares were designated as areas used for forestry. At the end of 2018, 45 hectares were used as agricultural land and forestry was carried out on 962 hectares. The average soil climate in Obertal is 12.1 (as of 2010).
