Italy delivered three identical ships to Greece as reparations . These were Aphrodite , Eros and Adonis . The Eros was built under construction number 1882 at Cantieri Riuniti dell'Adriatico in Monfalcone and launched on June 8, 1964. In September 1965, the delivery to the Piraeus- based Typaldos Line took place. After only one year in service, however , the Eros came into the possession of Epirotiki Lines in 1966, which they renamed Jason .
The ship, which was still used for liner service on the Greek coast in the first two years, was converted for cruise operations in 1967. The car deck, which could hold up to forty cars, was removed and the number of passengers was reduced from 1,461 to 325. Jason spent the next 28 years cruising across Europe, South America and the Caribbean.
After the merger of Epirotiki Lines with Sun Lines in 1995, the ship, renamed Iason , passed into the ownership of the newly founded Royal Olympic Cruises in January 1996 . However, the merger did not change anything in the operational area. After the bankruptcy of Royal Olympic Cruises, Iason went to Derwent Ocean Ltd. in December 2005. based in Panama City , which they renamed Ocean Odyssey and used for their own shipping company, Indian Ocean Cruises. The ship was henceforth used for cruises off the coast of India.
In February 2009 the Ocean Odyssey was retired because it no longer met the latest safety regulations (SOLAS 2010). A planned conversion for further use was not implemented. Instead, the ship arrived on July 29, 2009 in Alang, India , where it was scrapped after 44 years of service.
