The Oceanex Connaigra is a ConRo ship of the Canadian shipping company Oceanex. The ship is the world's first new ship to be equipped with a dry desulphurization system.
The ConRo ship is 210 meters (width over frames 29.60 meters, draft 8.60 meters). The delivery took place in October 2013. The ship can take over containers and rolling cargo. It is designed for worldwide travel, has an ice class and, with its “dry” desulphurisation system, is one of the most environmentally friendly ferries. The 19,460 tdw ship is equipped with a stern ramp and a side ramp for flexible loading . The weather deck , which is accessible via a ramp, can be reached by rolling cargo, but is preferably intended for containers. It offers parking spaces for a total of 940 TEU, including 120 refrigerated containers and 200 heated containers. The ship has a total of five RoRo decks on which 210 cars and almost 100 trailers (2,800 lorry lane meters) can be stowed. The ship is classified with ice class 1A.
Technical equipment
The main engines (2 × MAN 7L48 / 60-CR with 8400 kW each) act on a controllable pitch propeller via clutches and a gearbox . This means that one or the other main engine can be disengaged and the ship can be supplied with power via a PTO. Furthermore, two diesel generators (MAN 8L21 / 31 with 1,700 kW each) were installed. Four transverse thrusters with a total output of 5600 kW were installed for the maneuvering. The extreme ship movements for people and cargo in the rough waters of North America are reduced with roll damping tanks (flume tanks) and fin stabilizers .
Desulfurization plant
The sulfur emission limit values according to MARPOL Annex VI, which came into force in 2015, are met with the dry exhaust gas cleaning system from the German company Couple Systems , which had previously implemented a first two-stage test system with a silo and waste container on the Timbus . The main engines and auxiliary diesel engines were equipped with the exhaust gas cleaning system.
