Ocobaya is a town in the La Paz department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .
Location in the vicinity
Ocobaya is a settlement in the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Chulumani in the Sud Yungas province . The village is located at an altitude of 1616 m, twenty kilometers northwest of the Río Boopi , a source river of the Río Beni .

Ocobaya is located in the Bolivian Yungas on the eastern slope of the high mountain ridge of the Cordillera Real .
The mean average temperature of the region is 21 ° C, the annual precipitation is about 1150 mm. The region has a distinct daytime climate, the monthly average temperatures fluctuate only insignificantly between 18 ° C in July and 22 ° C in December. From La Paz, the asphalted highway Ruta 3 leads 60 kilometers northeast to Unduavi , from there the unpaved Ruta 25 branches off in a southeast direction and after 69 kilometers reaches Chulumani . From there, a road leads 13 kilometers to the village of Ocobaya and continues to Cutusuma .

Due to the historically grown population distribution, the region has a high proportion of Aymara population , in the Municipio Chulumani 49.9 percent of the population speak the Aymara language ( 2001 ).
