Octavio Valdez (born December 7, 1973 in Santiago Acutzilapan, Atlacomulco , Edo. De México ), also known by the nickname El Tavo , is a Mexican football player who can be used either in defense or in midfield .

Life

Valdez began his professional career in the 1995/96 season with CF Pachuca , with whom he won his first of a total of four championship titles in the 1999 Torneo Invierno . When Valdez changed clubs for the first time in the summer of 2001, he showed extraordinary skill in this regard. In the 2001/02 season he was under contract with Club America , with whom he won his second championship title in Torneo Verano in 2002. Immediately after this success he moved to Deportivo Toluca FC , with whom he immediately won his third title in the Apertura 2002 . In summer 2003 he returned to his former club Pachuca and won his fourth and final championship title with him in the 2003 Apertura .

Until the age of 35, Valdez played in the Mexican premier league , where he was last active in the 2008/09 season for CF Monterrey . He has been playing in the second division since summer 2009 , where he was under contract with the Tiburones Rojos de Veracruz in the 2009/10 season and is currently in action for the Reboceros de La Piedad .

National team

Between 2001 and 2004 Valdez completed a total of 30 international appearances for the Mexican national team .

He made his debut in a friendly game played on April 11, 2001, which was won 1-0 against Chile. His last international match took place on November 13, 2004 as part of the World Cup qualification against the selection of San Kitts and Nevis and was won 5-0.

The highlight of his national team career was his participation in the 2003 CONCACAF Gold Cup , in which he played all five Mexican games in full and won the title. In this tournament, the Mexicans were able to prevail twice against record world champions Brazil, who were defeated 1-0 in both the opening game and the final (with a golden goal in the 108th minute).
