Odile Edouard (born May 6, 1966 ) is a French violinist, mainly in the field of historical performance practice .

Life

Odile Edouard studied baroque violin with Chiara Banchini at the "Center de Musique Ancienne" in Geneva and followed courses with John Holloway and Sigiswald Kuijken . Shortly after completing her studies, she took over the Geneva class for baroque violin from Chiara Banchini for around 10 years before moving to the CNSMDP in Lyon . After many years of orchestral work in ensembles such as Les Arts Florissants , Seminario Musicale , Les Musiciens du Louvre or Ensemble 415 , Odile Edouard is now increasingly devoting himself to research. She has been exploring unusual paths for a long time and, in addition to baroque and classical music, also deals with volX music . Odile Edouard is the violinist of the ensemble "Les Witches", initiated by Freddy Eichelberger , which is known for its improvisations on Shakespeare texts and the interpretation of works from John Playford's collection The English Dancing Master . As a member of the “Alpbarock” ensemble, she recorded a CD with the title Simelibärg for the Alpha label in 2007 with old folk melodies from Switzerland.

The position of the violin is based on historical textbooks and pictorial sources from the 17th century by placing them below the collarbone. She is a member of the “Les Sonadori” ensemble, which was founded in 2012 and partly plays on replicas of instruments from the 16th century, which were rediscovered and analyzed in Freiberg Cathedral in 2006 .

Odile Edouard made numerous recordings for labels such as Harmonia Mundi, Arcana, L'Emprunte digital, Hortus Sinfonia, Alpha and K617 (sonatas by Schmelzer, the Rosary sonatas by Biber, trio sonatas by Corelli with Enrico Gatti , sonatas by Jean-Baptiste Senaillé and several recordings with "Les Witches").
