Veja Mate is an offshore wind farm in the German exclusive economic zone of the North Sea . The shareholders are a consortium consisting of the Ingka Group, Commerz Real, wpd-invest, KGAL and Siemens Financial Services . The total investment in the project is 1.9 billion euros.

An annual standard energy capacity of more than 1,600  GWh or a good 4,000 full load hours is expected , which corresponds to the annual electricity consumption of approx. 400,000 German households. The construction of the offshore work began at the beginning of April 2016 with the construction of the first monopile foundation. The loss of the last wind turbine end of May 2017 took place four months ahead of schedule. After acceptance by SGS in December 2017, the system went into regular operation in February 2018.

On February 1, 2019, it was announced that Siemens Project Ventures GmbH would take over sole control of the operating company Veja Mate Offshore Project GmbH . The European Commission approved the acquisition under the EU Merger Regulation .

location

The wind farm is located about 130 kilometers north of Eemshaven in the Netherlands in the North Sea. It extends over a total area of approx. 51 km² with water depths of 39–41 m. The mean wind speed on site is more than 10 m / s. Due to its location, it is not visible from the coast.

Wind turbines

For insert 67 come wind turbines generators (WTG) of the type Siemens SWT 6.0-154 that at a rotor diameter of 154 meters above a rated power of 6  MW feature. The total output of all systems is 402 MW. Their total height is approx. 180 m, the hub height is approx. 103 m. They are designed for an operating period of 25 years. When the order was placed in 2015, a maintenance contract for an initial period of 15 years was also agreed.

The wind turbines were built on monopile foundations with transition pieces. The monopiles are the largest foundations of their kind to date; with a diameter of 7.8 m, they are up to 84.5 m long. The monopiles were produced in the factory of the manufacturer Erndtebrücker Eisenwerk ( EEW Special Pipe Construction ) in Rostock's overseas port.

Network connection

Converter platform BorWin beta in the Warnow shipyard Warnemünde 2013

The wind turbines are connected to a transformer platform in the wind farm via medium-voltage cables , which transforms the three-phase alternating current (three-phase current) from 33  kV to high voltage of 155 kV. From there, the electricity is fed to the BorWin2 offshore HVDC system operated by the transmission system operator Tennet TSO via an approximately 11 km long submarine cable connection . The Albatros and Deutsche Bucht offshore wind farms are also connected to the BorWin beta converter platform . After conversion into direct current , the transmission takes place over 200 km (of which 125 km submarine cable and 75 km underground cable ) to the converter station Diele bei Diele (Weener) . The BorWin2 offshore HVDC system was supplied by Siemens , is designed for a connected load of 800 MW and went into operation in 2015.
