Oida taunz! is a song by the Austrian pop-rap duo Trackshittaz from 2010. The band's debut single and first single from their first studio album Oidaah pumpn muas’s was written by the two group members Lukas Plöchl and Manuel Hoffelner themselves, as well as by the former together with Martin Kromar and Florian Cojocaru produces.

background

Lukas Plöchl wore Oida taunz! for the first time on October 24, 2010 as a solo piece at the casting show Heroes of Tomorrow . In this, the participating candidates had the opportunity, among other things, to present the audience with titles they had composed themselves, some of which have proven themselves very successfully in the Austrian charts. The official commercial release of the studio version took place five days later. What was unusual at this point in time was that the single was only available in digital form, but was still commercially successful.

Music and lyrics

Oida taunz! is a dance-pop song that is characterized by static, pounding bass drums and simple synthesizers . What is striking about him is his catchy accordion motif, which runs through a large part of the beat . The two band members rap the song and take turns at irregular intervals; only at the end of the second verse there is singing , whereby the vocals are heavily alienated with the autotune effect . The text of the song is written entirely in Upper Austrian dialect and describes what effect the accordion built into the instrumental (Austrian "squeeze") has on the visitors of a discotheque . At first, the mood is described as bored, as the pressureless music that the DJ plays does not encourage anyone to dance . Soon after, the accordion begins to play and people's complaints fall silent. Although they are initially confused by the unusual sound of the instrument, the people begin to move rhythmically - initially still tense. In the chorus, the trackshittaz introduce the dance steps to the song, so that everyone participates enthusiastically in the second verse. With the exuberant atmosphere, however, so does the pleasure of those present. Towards the end of the second verse, the inhibitions sink so much that the club goers undress. With the remark that from this point the text would be censored, the duo abruptly ends the narration of the story and the refrain starts again.

Music video

The music video for Oida taunz! plays mainly in a nightclub from which the duo at the beginning of the clip with a tractor achieved, and in compliance during the first verse and the chorus relatively faithful to the text. When the musicians enter the dance floor , there is initially a bored atmosphere, as everyone is sitting annoyed at the bar . With the use of the accordion, however, those present begin to move their heads rhythmically. Shortly afterwards, the club-goers stand together with the Trackshittaz in the middle of the floor and perform the sung choreography synchronously with them , with some of them performing breakdance movements. This also runs through the second stanza. Towards the end, a limousine appears , into which the guests and the performers get in to continue the party. Shots of a scantily clad woman performing an erotic dance are also distributed throughout the video. These have no recognizable reference to the rest of the content.

success

In Austria, the home of the Trackshittaz, Oida was taunz! a great commercial success which managed to position itself at the top of the charts and to be awarded a gold record. Internationally, the song could not place in any other hit parade.

German version

In the course of the upcoming participation of the Trackshittaz in the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 in Baku , it was decided to market the duo in Germany , where the compilation album Traktorgängstapartyrap was released. With Oida you chose taunz! the group's most successful song as the first single and given it a major overhaul . The remix , titled as German version , was underlaid with a beat produced by Hartmut Wessling and Mike Rötgens , which is much more oriented towards techno or hands-up music, and was re-recorded by the two band members. Some of the lines have been translated into Standard German or modified; a large part of the text is still in dialect . Unlike the original version, the remix was also released as a CD single. However, it did not succeed to build on the earlier success of the song; a German chart placement failed to materialize.
