Oku (singer)

Oku (actually: Markus Okuesa ; * 1977 in Lagos , Nigeria ) is a German-Nigerian reggae and soul singer and songwriter .

Life

Markus Okuesa is the son of a German and a Nigerian. At the age of 20 he moved to Germany, where he studied special education in Landau in the Palatinate . Here he founded the reggae group Oku and the Reggaerockers together with fellow students in 2005 . The group gained regional fame in the Saar-Palatinate area with their own German-language compositions and was seen at numerous city festivals such as Halberg Open Air or Rocco del Schlacko and released three albums. The musicians include a. Hanna Bettinger (saxophone), Simon Bollinger (trumpet), Christian Berton (bass), Eric Blass (drums), Mark Rottländer (keyboards), Sebastian Becker (guitar) and Andreas Dejon (trombone).

Okuesa's main job was as a special school teacher in Blieskastel and Rohrbach . He also leads music workshops and is active as a youth soccer coach. He lives in the Saarland district town of Homburg .

On April 18, 2009 he was a participant in the ProSieben broadcast Schlag den Raab , where he had to admit defeat to Stefan Raab after 14 games and over 5 hours .

In 2015 he founded a project with OQmanSolo to set his German-language soul titles to music.
