He was the author of numerous political-psychological studies.

"Inherent Bad Faith Model"

Ole Holsti became known for the model of inherent malice , which was established in his doctoral thesis (1962) , which describes the psychological processing of information by a conflict partner. In this model, a person views their opponent as invariably hostile and malicious, and signals contradicting this view are interpreted as propaganda-motivated deception or as signs of weakness. According to the Handbook of Social Psychology , the Inherent Bad Faith Model is the most widely studied model for examining the relationship between two conflict opponents. The Inherent Bad Faith Model was best known through John Foster Dulles ' relationship with the Soviet Union or Israel's early relationship with the PLO .
