Olga Georgievna Ryashskaya

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Olga Georgijewna Rjaschskaja ( Russian Ольга Георгиевна Ряжская ; born May 12, 1941 in Moscow ) is a Russian physicist .

Life

After attending middle school, Ryashskaya studied at the physics faculty of Lomonosov University Moscow (MGU), graduating in 1964 from the chair of cosmic rays . She then became a research assistant in the neutrino laboratory of the Lebedev Institute for Physics (FIAN) of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (AN-SSSR, since 1991 Russian Academy of Sciences (RAN)). In 1970 she defended her candidate dissertation on the interactions of cosmic muons with matter .

Rjaschskaja has been working at the Institute for Nuclear Research (IJaI) of the AN-SSSR or RAN since 1971 . In 1985 she became head of the laboratory for electronic methods of neutrino detection in the department for leptons of high energy and neutrino astrophysics at the IJaI. In 1987 she defended her doctoral thesis on the underground investigation of background radiation with large-volume scintillation detectors . In 1997 she was appointed professor . In 2000 she was elected a corresponding member of the RAN.

Rjaschskaja developed and experimentally confirmed a theory describing the interaction of cosmic rays with matter in the subsurface , with cascade processes playing the main role. She developed a method for studying the background radiation with large-volume scintillation detectors, which were built under their management: the 130  m 3 detector collapse for the salt mine Artyomovsk , the 108 m 3 - Liquid scintillator detector (LSD) for the Underground Neutrino Observatory under the Mont Blanc and the 1100 m 3 - Large Volume Detector (LVD) for the Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso . The Russian- Italian LVD is the world's largest iron scintillation calorimeter , and she led the collaboration. Under their leadership, the energy spectrum of the cosmic muons up to 16 TeV was measured, with no anomalies being found. She founded a service to observe the gravitational collapse , so that since 1978 the collapses in the galaxy and the Magellanic clouds have been registered. With others, she developed a method for the detection of muons and tau neutrinos and looked for oscillations in the registration of neutrino radiation from collapsing stars . It showed that the collapse is always accompanied by a gamma-ray burst and a hydrogen burst.

Rjaschskaja was a member of the International Commission C4 for Cosmic Rays of the International Union for Pure and Applied Physics 1999-2006 . Rjaschskaja was the author or co-author of a large number of publications. Her deer index is 27.
