Oliver Gies (musician)

Oliver Gies (born May 30, 1973 in Walsrode ) is a German singer ( baritone ), songwriter and arranger .

Life

Oliver Gies grew up in Rotenburg / Wümme . After studying to be a teacher ( music / mathematics ) in Hanover , Gies completed a postgraduate course in composition / arrangement jazz / rock / pop in Essen .

In 1992 he was one of the co-founders of a quartet that later called itself Maybebop and is one of the most successful a cappella formations in German-speaking countries. Gies is the Artistic Director of Maybebop and writes, arranges and texts most of the pieces. He also writes commissioned compositions and coaches choirs and ensembles.

His choir adaptation of the Rammstein title Engel was the compulsory piece in the jazz / pop category at the 2010 German choir competition .

Oliver Gies lives in Hanover with his partner and two children.
