Oliver Kayser (born May 3, 1967 in Recklinghausen ) is a German pharmacist and university professor. Since June 2014 Kayser has been Dean of the Faculty of Biological and Chemical Engineering at the Technical University of Dortmund .

education

Kayser studied pharmacy from 1986 to 1991 at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster . From 1991 to 1992 he was a Predoctoral Fellow at the University of Florida in Gainesville . From 1992 to 1997 he was at the Pharmaceutical Institute at the Free University of Berlin , where he completed his postgraduate studies ( Ph.D. ). In 1998 he moved to the Pharmaceutical-Technological Institute of the Free University of Berlin. In 2003 he was appointed Associate Professor for Natural Product Biosynthesis at the University of Groningen , Netherlands , where he worked as a professor in the fields of biotechnology and applied microbiology as well as biochemistry and molecular biology until 2010 . Since 2010 he has been employed at the Technical University of Dortmund , where he was Dean of the Faculty of Biological and Chemical Engineering from 2014 to 2018.

Kayser received his doctorate in the field of biology, chemistry and pharmacy at the Free University of Berlin in the field of natural product chemistry. The topic of the doctoral thesis is Phenolic Ingredients of Pelargonium sidoides DC. And studies on the effectiveness of the Umcka drug ( Pelargonium sidoides DC. And Pelargonium reniforme CURT.) .

On November 28, 2017, Kayser received an honorary doctorate from Poznan University of Medical Sciences (PUMS).

Habilitation

Kayser completed his habilitation in the field of biology, chemistry and pharmacy at the Free University of Berlin in the field of pharmaceutical technology and pharmaceutical biotechnology. The topic of the habilitation thesis is biotechnologically obtained natural substances and derivatives, their anti-parasitic testing in vitro / in vivo and pharmaceutical formulation for the optimization of the effect .

Research focus

Kayser became known for the biotechnological production of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the active ingredient of the cannabis plant.

politics

Kayser is politically active in the FDP , for which he ran as a direct candidate in the constituency of Dortmund I in the state elections in North Rhine-Westphalia in 2017 and received 6.8% of the first votes.
