Oliver Lahl

Msgr. Oliver Lahl (born November 5, 1967 in Riedlingen ) is a German Roman Catholic prelate .

Life

Lahl grew up in Bad Buchau . He passed the Abitur at the Kreisgymnasium Riedlingen and then prepared in Latin , Greek and Hebrew at the Ambrosianum pre-seminar in Ehingen . From 1988 to 1993 he studied philosophy and Catholic theology in Tübingen and Rome . A year of internship followed in Leonberg . In 1995 he was ordained a deacon and worked in pastoral care in Wendlingen and Oberboihingen . In June 1996 he was ordained a priest in the St. Martin's Basilica in Wiblingen . He came to the parishes of St. Nikolaus and St. Columban in Friedrichshafen as vicar . In September 1997, Bishop Walter Kasper brought him to Rottenburg as the Episcopal Secretary . With the appointment of Kasper as secretary and later president of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity , Lahl accompanied him to Rome in 1999 as private secretary. He held this position until Cardinal Kasper was dismissed in July 2010.

Lahl returned to his home diocese and in October 2010 became pastor in the pastoral care unit 07 of the Stuttgart dean's office and deputy dean.

On October 10, 2015, Lahl was appointed to the diplomatic service by the Foreign Office at the German Embassy at the Holy See in Rome on the previous recommendation of the German Bishops' Conference . Since February 1, 2016, he has taken over the position of the Spiritual Counselor there, succeeding Prelate Eugen Kleindienst . In this role he is responsible for the Church and Theology department. For the period of his work in Rome, Lahl was released from his pastoral service by the Diocese of Rottenburg-Stuttgart . He resigned his previous activity as pastor and head of pastoral care unit 07 in Stuttgart on January 10, 2016 as part of a farewell service.
