Oliver Schmid is a Swiss musician (drummer) and sound artist. He lives in Zurich and Berlin .

biography

Schmid studied drums and piano between 1984 and 1990 at the Musikhochschule Luzern and the Musikakademie St. Gallen (Jazz department) . With Klaus Knöpfle he founded the modern jazz trio Blue Exercise in 1988 , which has toured with bassist Hämi Hämmerli , among others .

In 1990 Schmid moved to Zurich. He worked with the theater director and musician Igor Bauersima under the name Recrash W to develop a wide variety of sound concepts.

He played with the experimental band Dead Zone in Graz ( Steirischer Herbst 1994) and at the Schaffhausen Jazz Festival (1994).

An experimental electronic duo was created with the Swiss cellist Bo Wiget . At the same time, Schmid developed the resonator video sound project with the Berlin based artist Frank Lüling.

Since 2002 Oliver Schmid has been working with the Zurich-based film musician Marcel Vaid and the electronics technician Ravi Vaid in the Superterz band , which moves between triphop and jazz . The trio often performs with guests. The singers Sophie Hunger , Heidi Happy and the pianist Marianne Schroeder are or were part of this project.

In Berlin he has also been playing as a "minimal electronics technician" since 2006. Schmid has been working with Björn Vinzelberg as a live electronics technician since 2009.
