Based on the coat of arms of Croatia , the monument consists of unevenly high blocks made of different natural stones from all Croatian counties and six blocks made of blue glass . Motifs from the history of Croatia are carved into the stone blocks , such as a cross made of Croatian wickerwork from the time of Knes Branimir and the first stanza of the Croatian national anthem . There are 29 blue and white drops of glass around the stone and glass blocks . An eternal flame is placed in the center of the cuboid .

history

The memorial was opened on the Croatian national holiday on May 30, 1994 by Croatian President Franjo Tuđman (1922–1999) as a place of remembrance . Tuđman's last public appearance before his cancer death was the visit of Oltar domovine on All Saints' Day , November 1st, 1999 .

After 2000, glass elements of the monument broke. In 2006 the first renovation phase with cast glass was completed.
