The shooting competition over 50 m with the small bore rifle lying down at the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin took place on August 8th. The venue was the shooting range at Wannsee .
By means of a draw, the athletes were divided into three groups, who competed at different times:
- Group 1: 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
- Group 2: 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
- Group 3: 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The first group started shooting in the rain, but it stopped after half an hour. The cloudy sky cleared in the afternoon and brought the occasional sunshine. In addition, there was a little wind that disrupted the competition from time to time.
The competition consisted of 15 series of two shots, so that each shooter had 30 shots. Which resulted in a maximum score of 300.
Willy Røgeberg from Norway was able to achieve this maximum number of points and thus set a new Olympic record, which also made him Olympic champion.
