Vital Dreyfus

Vital Dreyfus (born October 2, 1901 in Besançon ; died December 1942 in the Pyrenees ) was a French family doctor and resistance fighter.

biography

Vital Dreyfus lived with his wife and two children on the Boulevard Malesherbes in Paris during World War II . He was friends with Johan Hendrik Weidner , a Dutch resistance fighter against the German occupation of the Netherlands and founder of the Western European curse network Dutch-Paris .

Dreyfus became a member of this network: he accompanied people who tried to flee across the French- Swiss or French- Spanish border. At the end of 1942, Weidner asked him to travel to Great Britain . He was supposed to consult with the Dutch authorities there about improving connections from the Netherlands to France, Switzerland and Spain. While trying to reach Spain via the Pyrenees, Dreyfus got caught in a snow storm and froze to death. His body was only found after the snow melted in March 1943.

Vital Dreyfus was buried in Planolas near Girona in Spain. He was posthumously honored on May 24, 1950 by the Dutch state with the Verzetskruis .
