At the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo , competitions in karate are to be held for the first time in the Nippon Budōkan . They are organized by the World Karate Federation (WKF for short). There are 10 athletes in each competition.

There are 10 quota places for each competition, these are allocated as follows:

  • 1 to Japan as the host nation
  • 4 to the best athletes in the Olympic ranking with the deadline April 6, 2020
  • 2 to athletes as continental representatives or by wildcard
